THE MOVIES

Never learned a business lesson from them?

Hollywood have some of the most interesting business lessons out there. We love books, but we love movies even more; and this quick business lessons are among the greatest and performed by stars like Alec Baldwin, Tom Cruise or John Travolta. This is the kind of stuff you can find at our company blog.

Mr. Wolf: "I solve problems"

Excellent scene from the Quentin Tarantino's Movie Pulp Fiction. This is an example of certain situations that strikes all of us from time to time: ego-maniacs. Being a design agency, we have heard about those little "horror stories" where some designers are know as "prima donnas" in business; they don't get friendly if a client wants to see a different perspective or needs to have a just delivered design re-done from scratch: with those guys that situation can end up in a knife fight.

At EmaStudios, we see ourselves, as problem solvers. We like to get in fast, do our thing, and go out as fast as we got in. Smooth is the word. We solve problems.

QUOTES

"It's thirty minutes away. I've be there in ten."
"I'm Mr.Wolf; I solve problems."

Steve Jobs: "We have better stuff"

Pirates of the Silicon Valley. is an extraordinary example of a business lesson: the one who gets first, isn't always the winner. Most business owners and entrepreneur have the wrong impression that being there first means everything. We all have seen Microsoft getting "there" first with the launch of MS Windows a few hours before Apple officially launched their own operating system; the first computer with a GUI, but now is Apple the one that owns the market.

Other ones that came second? Google. Facebook or Techcrunch. Being second doesn't necessary means losing; it means we came second and that's all. Lesson learned, next time, hurry up!

Glengarry Glen Ross: "Brass balls"

Glengarry Glen Ross has one of. the most though and inspirational speeches in the history of movies. Alec Baldwin (at his best) did an outstanding performance to show us that, to be in the game you have to be hungry. Not of power, not of money, but success hungry. Most people don't realize how hard is to be a business owner or entrepreneur; it's an emotional rollecoster where you are up one day, and down the next one. The secret, as stands in this scene; is to go beyond yourself.

Hard speech, but direct and emotional. The conclusion: world is out there for you to take it.

Jerry Maguire: "What can I do for you?"

If you didn't saw this scene from Jerry Maguire, welcome to the earth. It has been everywhere since the 90's, and yet, most people don't realize of it's true meaning. It's not the desperation for keeping his one and only client what motivates Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise) to scream "show me the money!" over his cellphone; is the absolute necessity of that moment to go beyond duty to accomplish a goal that needed to be done. Cuba Gooding Jr character wanted to see if his agent was ready to go that extra inch for him by inviting him to scream "show me the money!".

Some times its important to go beyond duty; beyond contract. if we don't enjoy what we are doing, or we aren't ready go that extra inch, what we are doing here?
